C. Bechstein affords the luxury of hand crafting masterpieces - you can hear and feel the difference. The company’s R&D department, outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by experienced master piano makers, constantly refines the manufacturing processes.
In conservatories and concert halls the world over, C. Bechstein grand pianos evidence their unsurpassed tone qualities.

Future Rooted in Tradition and High Technology
C. Bechstein means excellent pianos made in Germany to world-class standards.
Backed by more than one and a half centuries of experience, the C. Bechstein brand is an epitome of exquisite sound and timbre. If there were such a thing as "Formula One" in the world of music, C. Bechstein is up there. We devote years to preparing the materials and many months in making each instrument.

A C. Bechstein piano is solid over generations: this is one of the characteristics
of the brand. Century-old instruments arrive in our restoration workshop for refurbishment from all over the world.

C. Bechstein is a comprehensive manufacturer, working intensively with each individual
"masterpiece". The C.Bechstein R+D department, equipped with state-of-the art technology, can apply new developments effectively through precise engineering
specifications.

The basis for longevity: C.Bechstein continues to use a large amount of natural materials.

Strict quality standards require suitability tests and preliminary selection. Ecological criteria also play an important role. The exceptional quality of the C.Bechstein sound and playing experience can be traced back to the very conscious selection of wood qualities. Layered, laminated hard wood for the inner grand piano rim and the pin block, the finest mountain spruce for the soundboard, high-quality cabinet core woods for the piano cabinet. For the soundboard only spruce wood, grown in certain regions is used. The structure of the annual rings of growth reflects the growing process of the tree, from which our experts can deduce the sound potential of every single board used.

The C. Bechstein sound-body is a resonating system based on a specifically engineered wooden membrane. Bit by bit it is tested with respect to its individual, unique tonal characteristics, its length of vibration and its behavior therein. C. Bechstein’s optimal freedom of vibration enables the sound to unfold and develop with
maximal conservation of energy.

Bridges made of solid and laminated hardwood:The bridge set under specific graduated
pressure transfers the string vibrations on the board, it is specified for each individual soundboard. The form, dimensions and position of the bridges in relation to the soundboard curvature ensure optimal sound transfer. The integral working procedure at C. Bechstein takes all these individual finer details into account.
The end points of the ribs are inserted into custom-made pockets, so that the sound
board tension is not reduced over time. These "rib pockets" precisely match the ends of the ribs and their diameter. The shape and tensions in the board and the ribs react in ideal harmony with the changes of room temperature and humidity.
When played, the sound board can even react sensitively to minimal vibrations. This piano engineering method is typical of C. Bechstein.

C. Bechstein pin blocks are cross-layered, guaranteeing excellent stability and optimal
torsion of the tuning pin torque - resulting in outstanding tuning of the piano. Superior maple or beech provide longevity, thus the tuning pin block holds for life. The robust Grand Piano Rim consists of several wood layers laminated together by means of a special process. They are formed in manual presses with specially developed pressure clamps. Density and resilience of materials are selected with regard to function, durability and sound enhancing properties.

The cast iron plates aremade frompremiumquality grey iron in a sandcasting process.
This traditional technique has a distinct advantage over the vacuum process, in basic and partial frequencies of tone.

The hammerheads are manufactured by world-renowned hammerhead makers employing excellent sheep wool from New Zealand. Voicing at C. Bechstein is an art that demands passion, vast experience and a lot of time. No mass production firm can provide such resources of personnel and expertise.

A secret of the convincing beauty of the soundof C.Bechstein pianos lies in their optimal realization of the individual sound conception of the player. This is brought about by the closely guarded secrets in the sound board and rimengineering, the general coherence of all the details, the individual and excellent work processes. Experience the effortlessness and the fine, imperceptible resistance of the clearly defined, precise and sparkling action, then you will invariably fall in love with the creative possibilities. The player can express him or herself precisely on a C. Bechstein. The C. Bechstein sings.
